Description
Cross Trees Cottage and Jessamin Cottage are two cottages dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century. Originally timber framed, they feature squared chalk brought to course on the ground floor, with rendered concrete block above. The rear and side walls are made of uncoursed chalk rubble, and the cottages have thatched roofs with brick stacks. Cross Trees has a two-unit plan, while Jessamin has a one-unit plan, with a rear outshut added when the timber frame was clad in chalk. The buildings are two stories high and have a five-window range. Timber lintels are present over the doors and casements, and the roofs are gabled and hipped with end stacks. Inside, there are deep chamfered beams with splay stops and wood bressumers over the open fireplaces.
