Description
The Shieling is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of uncoursed sarsen rubble with brick dressings, and features chalk rubble that is also uncoursed at the rear. The front has new plain tiles, while the rear is covered with old stone slates. The building has brick stacks and a two-unit plan, standing two storeys high with a three-window range.
The central entrance is a mid-20th century door with a contemporary porch, flanked by one-light windows. Above, there are 18th-century three-light iron casements with 20th-century plate glass on the left and right sides of the first floor. The ground floor has 20th-century casements with flat brick arches and brick bands connecting the window jambs, along with a brick eaves course. The roof is gabled with end stacks. The interior has not been inspected. There is also a mid-20th century lean-to agricultural building attached to the right gable.
