Description

8 Cross Street is a two-storey building with a rendered and painted front and a Welsh slate roof. It has a double depth plan with a central entrance leading to a shop. The façade features one window and a good early 20th-century shopfront. The central entrance has a part-glazed door and is flanked by canted display windows in three lights above a stall-riser, topped by a continuous fascia. Above this, there is an ornamental iron railing with a central pedimented feature, which was likely intended to display the original shop name but is now blank.

The first-floor window has an 8 over 8 pane sash with an ornamental hoodmould supported by brackets. The second-floor windows are 4 over 8 pane sashes positioned close under the eaves. The roof has a plain low pitch and features a large brick stack on the left gable.

The street range extends with a long wing that stretches back up the central alleyway. This wing is also rendered and painted but has been more altered and is less extensive than that of the adjoining No. 7. Most of its features are from the 20th century.

The interior was not available for inspection during the resurvey, but the ground floor shop has few visible historic features.
