Description

The Albion Colliery Disaster Memorial is a tall white marble monument located within a metal railed enclosure. It is flanked to the east and west by short rows of shaped headstones, which are set in modern gravel beds. The memorial features a stepped plinth leading up to a square pier with raised panels. The front panel includes a lead inscription and a carved floral tribute beneath Gothic mouldings at the top of the pier. Atop the memorial, a small pedestal supports a standing figure of an angel who is picking flowers from a shroud to scatter them below.
