Description
Pen-y-waun is a small farmhouse with a double-depth plan, featuring two storeys at the front and a single storey with an attic at the rear. It is constructed from narrow coursed stone rubble, topped with a Welsh slate roof at the front and stone tiles at the rear, and has corniced end stacks. The symmetrical front facade includes a three-window range of margin-glazed and horned sash windows with stone tile voussoirs. There is a central moulded arched doorway with a panelled soffit and a fanlight that has radial glazing bars.
At the rear, the roof slopes down lower, with a single 20th-century window on the left and an outshut on the right that features an attached tall yellow brick chimney. To the left of the house, separated by a rear courtyard wall, is a small byre or stable unit that shares the same roofline. This unit has two cambered-headed doorways with stable doors and a loft opening above, along with a lower extension. A lean-to structure fills the space between the byre and the farmhouse, obscuring rear windows at two levels: a four-light small-pane casement window above and a three-light window with a segmental arched head below, where the middle light is blocked. There is also a wide doorway with a boarded door and a dripmould.
