Description

Gelliargwellt Uchaf Farmhouse is a large farmhouse with a T-shaped plan, built in the 18th century. It features a five-unit offset entry layout that includes a hall and parlour with back-to-back fireplaces sharing a central chimney. There is an additional heated room at the west end, a service room at the east end, and a rear wing that contains a staircase with a small room adjacent on one side and a later kitchen on the other. The farmhouse is constructed of rendered stone rubble and has a Welsh slate roof with paired central ridge stacks.

The garden frontage showcases a gabled porch on the right side, which has a datestone and a corbel above a round arched entrance, with stone benches inside. The house has an unequally spaced four-window range, with two windows on each side. The first-floor windows have cambered heads, and the former sash windows have been replaced with UPVC. The ground floor features more varied openings, also with replaced glazing.

Entering from the left rear, the end left room was formerly a dairy or pantry, featuring a moulded slab, flag floor, and chamfered beams with hooks. This room leads to the first of the main inner rooms, the former hall, which has direct access from the front porch, a stone floor, and three high cross beams with shallow chamfers and stops. A 20th-century fireplace has been inserted into what was once a large open fireplace. Steps lead down to a lobby behind the central fireplace, which connects to another main room with a replaced fireplace and a further end room. The lobby also provides access to the stairs leading to the rear, which have shallow treads and turned balusters, with a dining room and kitchen adjacent.

On the first floor, the rooms retain six-panelled doors and high boxed-in beams, with the end room having been used as a cheese room. A wide boarded door leads to the attic, where A-frame roof trusses are visible along with three rows of trenched purlins.
