Description
The War Memorial is a commemorative structure featuring a statue of an angel, which stands on a triangular-plan base and plinth. It is made of ashlar stone laid in large blocks. The angel is depicted standing on a globe while holding a club and chain above its head. The base has chamfered angles with hollow mouldings and a prominent moulded cornice. Each side of the base displays an inset red marble tablet listing the names of those who died in the First World War from 1914 to 1918. The plinth also features chamfered angles and a moulded cornice, is stepped, and includes a moulded band. On the eastern face of the plinth, there is an additional stone block with an inset red marble tablet commemorating those who died in the Second World War from 1939 to 1945. The memorial is situated on a platform of octagonal paving and is surrounded by decorative railings. An entrance on the eastern side is marked by a pair of double gates, leading up to the memorial via six stone steps.
