Description
The Upwell War Memorial is a stone structure commemorating the fallen from the First and Second World Wars, erected around 1922. It features an angel positioned on three steps above a tall, tapered, square pedestal, which is topped with a stepped plinth and base. The pedestal includes a moulded entablature. One face of the pedestal is adorned with a carved union flag and laurel branch, along with an inscription that reads, "THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY THE INHABITANTS TO THE HONOUR AND GLORY OF THE SOLDIERS AND SAILORS OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WARS." The names of the 67 individuals who lost their lives are inscribed on the other sides, with 57 from the First World War and 10 from the Second World War.
