Description
The Long Stratton War Memorial is a war memorial erected in 1920. It is carved from stone and features lead lettering inscriptions.
The memorial consists of a two-stepped stone base topped by a polished granite pedestal, which rises to a tapered rectangular shaft and cross. The dado of the pedestal has recessed panels on each side. The south and north panels include a wreath and the years 1914 and 1919, respectively, carved in relief. The east panel lists the names of 26 men from the parish who died during the First World War, with the addition of ‘1939-1945’ and the names of five men who died during the Second World War. The west panel is blank.
Around the top of the pedestal is the inscription:
THESE DIED / FOR GOD / KING AND / COUNTRY
On either side of the memorial are stone vases, and the entire structure stands on a brick platform with brick copings and flagstones.
