Description

The premises owned by Mr. Tummore and G.J. Cracknell and Son date back to the 17th century and were originally one house. The Tummores section features stuccoed timber framing and a steeply pitched gable-ended roof covered with black glazed pantiles. The south gable end is faced with brick and has brick coping, moulded brick kneelers, and a string course, along with two circular attic windows and blocked windows. At the top of the gable, there is a large brick chimney with two octagonal moulded stacks. The street-facing front is two stories high with two windows. The ground floor has early 19th-century bowed shop windows with glazing bars, a plain frieze, and a cornice, along with a glazed and panelled door that is sheltered by a simple ledge hood. To the right on the ground floor is a sash window with glazing bars. The first floor contains two two-light casements with glazing bars. The rear is stuccoed and includes a short gabled wing with sashes that have glazing bars, as well as a small one-storey and attic stuccoed wing.

The Cracknells section is positioned at right angles to the left, with its gable end facing the front. This part is set back and is two stories high with an attic, constructed of roughcast timber-frame and topped with a steep pantile roof. The ground floor features a large Victorian shop front with a fascia, sash windows, and a panelled door. The first floor has a sash window with glazing bars and a small attic casement. The left-hand return has four windows with small casements and two doorways. The gable end at the rear is brick with coping and a string course, featuring two small circular attic lights and a rebuilt chimney stack at the apex. The south side of this wing has an early wood mullion window that projects but is now plastered over. Inside, there are moulded beams. The building is graded for its shop front.
