Description
The Kencot War Memorial, unveiled in 1921, is a stone structure dedicated to the memory of local soldiers who died in the World Wars. It features an octagonal tapering pillar topped with a dome, which stands on an octagonal plinth. This plinth is elevated by a four-stepped octagonal base, resting on an octagonal platform step with moulded edges.
On the south face of the plinth, the dates 1914 and 1918 are inscribed. The south-west panel of the octagonal platform bears the inscription: "TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN/ FROM THIS PARISH WHO LAID DOWN/ THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR." The names of three soldiers who fell in the First World War are listed on the south panel of the platform. The south-east panel includes the inscription: "AND OF THOSE OTHERS WHO/ NOT LESS GALLANTLY SERVED/ THEIR COUNTRY IN THE SAME."
The west face of the plinth features the dates 1939 and 1945, and the name of the single soldier who fell in the Second World War is inscribed on the west panel of the bottom step of the base.
