Description
7 Alfred's Terrace is part of a two-storey row of cottages located in Taffs Well, constructed from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof. The terrace consists of five pairs of cottages (numbers 2 to 11) and an additional cottage (number 1) at the western end. Each pair shares a brick chimney stack that features a cornice band. The cottages have doorways topped with round arched brick heads, typically containing panelled doors with two-pane fan lights. Each cottage has a window on either the left or right side, with the windows on each floor aligned. The lower storey windows have segmental brick heads, while the upper storey windows are topped with cambered brick heads. The cottages feature deep 8-over-8-pane sash windows, mostly without horns, and have stone sills.
At the rear, the cottages include kitchen extensions that are enclosed by yard boundary walls. Originally, each cottage likely had a door and window on the lower storey. The upper storey mirrors the front, with two sash windows per cottage, but these have segmental brick heads. Some cottages have skylights on the rear roof pitch. Originally, each cottage contained a room at the front and back, with the staircase located in the front room opposite the fireplace. Most cottages have been modernised, combining the front and rear rooms into one space and adding a kitchen at the back.
The original panelled doors and multi-pane sash windows were replaced in the late 20th century, and the heads of the doors and windows have been rendered.
