Description

4 Alfred's Terrace is part of a two-storey row of cottages located in Taffs Well, constructed from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof. The terrace consists of five pairs of cottages (numbers 2 to 11) and an additional cottage (number 1) which has its entrance at the western end. Each pair shares a brick chimney stack that features a cornice band.

The cottages have doorways topped with round arched brick heads, primarily featuring panelled doors with 2-pane fan-lights. Each cottage has a window on either the left or right side, with the windows on both storeys aligned. The lower storey windows have segmental brick heads, while the upper storey windows are fitted with cambered brick heads. The windows are deep 8-over-8-pane sash types, mostly without horns, and have stone sills.

At the rear, the cottages include kitchen extensions that are enclosed within yard boundary walls. Originally, they likely featured a door and window on the lower storey. Each cottage has two upper storey sash windows similar to those at the front, but with segmental brick heads. Some have skylights on the rear roof pitch. Originally, each cottage contained a front and rear room, with the staircase located in the front room opposite the fireplace. Many of the cottages have since been modernised, combining the front and rear rooms into one and adding a kitchen at the back.

At the rear, there is a hornless sash window on the right and a horned sash window on the left.
