Description
2 Alfred's Terrace is part of a two-storey row of cottages located in Taffs Well, constructed from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof. The range consists of five pairs of cottages (numbers 2 to 11) and an additional cottage at the west end (number 1). Each pair shares a brick chimney stack with a cornice band. The cottages feature doorways topped with round arched brick heads, typically containing panelled doors with a two-pane fan-light above. Each cottage has one window to the left or right, with the windows on both storeys aligned. The lower storey windows have segmental brick heads, while the upper storey windows have cambered brick heads. The cottages are fitted with deep 8-over-8-pane sash windows, mostly without horns, and have stone sills.
At the rear, the cottages include kitchen extensions that are enclosed by yard boundary walls. Originally, they likely had a door and window on the lower storey. Each cottage has two upper storey sash windows similar to those at the front, but with segmental brick heads. Some have skylights on the rear roof pitch. Originally, each cottage contained a room at the front and back, with the staircase located in the front room opposite the fireplace. Most of the cottages have since been modernised, combining the front and rear rooms into one and adding a kitchen at the back.
