Description
Nos 1-11 Alfred's Terrace in Taffs Well is a two-storey range of rubble stone buildings topped with a slate roof. The terrace consists of five pairs of cottages (numbers 2 to 11) and an additional cottage (number 1) with its entrance at the west end. Each pair shares a brick stack that features a cornice band. The cottages each have a doorway topped by a round arched brick head, typically containing a panelled door with a two-pane fan-light. There is one window to the left or right of each doorway, with the windows on both storeys aligned. The lower storey windows have segmental brick heads, while the upper storey windows feature cambered brick heads. The deep sash windows, mostly without horns, have eight panes over eight panes and are set on stone sills.
At the rear, the cottages have kitchen extensions enclosed by yard boundary walls. Originally, they likely had a door and window on the lower storey. Each cottage has two upper storey sash windows similar to those at the front, but these have segmental brick heads. Some cottages also feature skylights on the rear roof pitch. Originally, each cottage contained a room at the front and rear, with the staircase located in the front room opposite the fireplace. Most have been modernised, combining the front and rear rooms into one and adding a kitchen at the rear. The sash windows are horned.
