Description

3 Alfred's Terrace is part of a two-storey row of cottages located at Alfred's Terrace in Taffs Well, constructed from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof. The range consists of five pairs of cottages (numbers 2 to 11) and an additional cottage (number 1) with its entrance on the west end. Each pair shares a brick chimney stack that features a cornice band. The cottages have doorways topped with round arched brick heads, typically containing panelled doors with a two-pane fan-light above. Each cottage has one window on either the left or right side, with the windows on both storeys aligned. The lower storey windows have segmental brick heads, while the upper storey windows feature cambered brick heads. The cottages are fitted with deep 8-over-8-pane sash windows, mostly without horns, and have stone sills.

At the rear, the cottages include kitchen extensions that are enclosed by yard boundary walls. Originally, each cottage likely had a door and window on the lower storey. Each cottage has two upper storey sash windows similar to those at the front, but with segmental brick heads. Some cottages also have skylights on the rear roof pitch. Originally, each cottage had a room at the front and another at the rear, with the staircase located in the front room opposite the fireplace. Most cottages have been modernised, combining the front and rear rooms into one and adding a kitchen at the back.

Number 3 features a part-lit panelled door at the front, with a six-pane light above that has a segmental head. This cottage does not have an extension at the rear.
