Description

6 Alfred's Terrace is part of a two-storey row of cottages located in Taffs Well, constructed from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof. The terrace consists of five pairs of cottages (numbers 2 to 11) and an additional cottage (number 1) at the western end. Each pair shares a brick chimney stack adorned with a cornice band. The cottages feature doorways topped with round arched brick heads, typically containing panelled doors with two-pane fan-lights. Each cottage has one window on either side, with the windows on both storeys aligned. The lower storey windows have segmental brick heads, while the upper storey windows are fitted with cambered brick heads. The windows are deep 8-over-8-pane sash types, mostly without horns, and have stone sills.

At the rear, the cottages include kitchen extensions enclosed by yard boundary walls. Originally, each cottage likely had a door and window on the lower storey. The upper storey features two sash windows similar to the front, but with segmental brick heads. Some cottages have skylights on the rear roof pitch. Originally, each cottage contained a front and rear room, with the staircase located in the front room opposite the fireplace. Most cottages have been modernised, combining the front and rear rooms and adding a kitchen at the back.

Number 6 has a part-lit panelled door with small panes, and the door head has been rendered. The left upper window at the rear has been replaced. The interior is reported to retain its original layout.
