Description
Toll House Cottage is a small two-storey, two-window cottage dating from 1785, facing south. The exterior is roughcast, primarily over stone with some red brick, and it has a slate roof. There is a cut-down yellow brick end stack on the left side. The cottage features stone quoins and a rounded angle on the left at ground floor level, along with a stone band above the ground floor that may indicate the height of the original building.
The central entrance has a panelled door with a timber lintel, which is partly boarded over, and is flanked by tall square-headed window openings with stone sills. Above these, there are similar shorter windows, with the left one previously displaying a four-pane sash. Currently, all windows are boarded over. A datestone is centrally positioned towards the top of the wall, inscribed with 'L I 1785'. The west gable end and rear of the cottage are not visible as they are disused and overgrown. The cottage is adjoined by a later building to the east. Access to the interior was not available at the time of inspection.
