Description

This is a terrace of three houses, numbered 1-5 Pen-y-dre, with a single-storey shop extension, number 227, attached to the left-hand gable end. The houses were built in the 1930s in a Garden Village style. They are roughcast rendered, with a roof of small slates and stacks running lengthwise along the ridge, along with one lateral stack. The gables have kneelers. The windows are mostly small-pane casements with narrow sills; some have been replaced in number 5. The original doors are boarded with small triangular lights and simple bracketed hoods. The houses are two storeys high. The frontage is asymmetrical. The shop extension is splayed and rendered, obscuring the ground-floor gable end of number 1. Above the later timber shop windows and the central door of the terrace, two pairs of small-pane casements remain. Number 1 has a four-light window close under the eaves to the first floor, a canted bay window to the living room on the left, and a small hall window to the right of the central door. Number 3 has a similar eaves window and a larger, sloping, half dormer; the central doorway has a small hall window to the left and a living room window to the right. Number 5 has a projecting cross gable, with two larger two-light first floor windows; a door is to the left and a living room window is to the right of the ground floor. An archway leads to the rear between numbers 3 and 5.
