Description

Nos. 1 and 2 Cardiff Road are a semi-detached pair of estate cottages, dating from the 18th century. The cottages are L-shaped and joined at a forward projecting wing. They are built of random rubble limestone with a distinctive "vertical crazy paving" appearance, featuring dressed long-and-short quoins and rusticated window surrounds. The roofs are covered in Welsh slate. Each cottage has two stories. The forward projection features modern lattice casement windows on both floors, with a gable incorporating scalloped bargeboards; No. 1 has a spike finial. A porch with a lean-to roof is present on the return, while the other returns are blind. The rear wing mirrors the front with casement windows on each floor, and both gables have spike finials. A shared stack is centrally located, with additional kitchen stacks situated behind the rear wing of each house. The interior has not been inspected.
