Description
This is a former Church in Wales primary school, dating from the 16th to 17th centuries, built in a vernacular style with detailed design. The school is located to the east (right) and the teacher’s house to the west (left). The building consists of a central wing flanked by two cross-wings.
The front elevation of the central wing is two stories tall and four bays wide. It features a chimney stack with three terracotta pots on the rear. The first window bay to the east has a gabled roof and a three-light mullion window on both the first and ground floors, with a transom bar to the ground floor window. The third bay is similarly gabled with matching windows. The second and fourth bays have parapets; the second bay contains a narrow single-light window above and below, the upper one being blind. The fourth bay has a narrow, traceried single-light window on the first floor and a porch with a pointed head and six-panelled door, set at an angle with the south-western cross-wing.
The eastern bay of the north-facing (front) elevation of the cross-wing is gabled and has a transom and mullion window on both floors. The western bay is topped with a parapet and features a two-light window on the ground floor. A chimney stack with four terracotta pots is situated on the roof.
To the southwest, a lower, single-story wing with a parapet and coping along the front wall includes a doorway with a pointed head and a ledged door.
An 1890 cross-wing extends eastward from the central wing, and is lower in height; it features a single-story and attic northern gable end, a three-light mullion window in the attic, and a lean-to porch with a projecting gabled bay containing a single-light window with a pointed head. This wing is characterised by ashlar stacks and a slightly higher roofline to the rear, with a bellcote on the roof. Two dormers have been added to the east-facing roof slope.
The interior was not accessible for inspection as it was undergoing conversion.
