Description
This is one of two late 19th century signal platforms from a former steam packet harbour. The northern platform is supported by wooden piles that are cross-braced, with angles reinforced by metal plates. It features a depth scale, a ladder leading up to the decking, and is equipped with iron bollards and railings. There are two railway-type signals mounted on lattice girder posts, each with ladders.
Originally, a floating landing stage was located at the rear of this platform and was connected to the quayside by a pivoting bridge that ran between wooden dolphins closer to the shore.
