Description
Halesworth Station Moving Platforms are a set of four movable passenger railway platforms that date back to 1888 and were refurbished in 1922, built for the East Suffolk Line.
These platforms are narrow and rectangular, constructed from cross-braced wrought iron with wooden planks forming the surfaces, which are also fitted with iron railings. They are located to the northwest of the station building, positioned along both sides of the track.
The platforms consist of four sections that meet in the middle when closed. The timber board surfaces have iron railings, and although they are currently permanently closed, they were originally designed to swing open across the tracks, creating a bridge between the two platforms. The curved ends of the platforms fit into matching curved brick enclosures. A plaque on the north side of the platform reads ‘BOULTON AND PAUL LTD, ENGRS 1922’, and there is a platform gate on the north side.
The station building itself is a post-war partial reconstruction of the original and is not considered to be of special interest.
