Description
Scott's Brasserie, formerly known as the Pilotage Office, is a two-storey building with a five-bay front made of snecked rubble and features bullnosed quoins. It has a slate roof with bracket eaves, freestone gable parapets, and rubble chimney stacks with a bracket cornice on the left. The building includes a central tower topped with a saddleback roof and a modern ship weather vane, flanked by blind attic gables.
Eaves bands made of Radyr stone over pale freestone run along the tower and main building, with moulded kneelers throughout. The windows are sashes without glazing bars; those on the first floor are square-headed, while the central windows are paired and taller, with camber heads below that feature voussoirs and stilted labels. A similar label extends over the central entrance, which is flanked by narrow windows. The left window has been converted for use as a letter-box. The entrance features granite nook shafts with foliated capitals and panelled double doors with an overlight.
At the base of the tower, there is an inset compass face with a rope-moulded surround, a deep stone lintel, and a tall pointed relieving arch above it, with a blocked triangular-headed opening at the top. The compass, made by W Weichart of Cardiff, indicates wind direction and is operated by the weather vane. The left side of the building has three bays with sashes flanking a camber-arched central blocked opening, while the right side is plain. At the rear, the back of the tower is visible at ridge level, featuring a modern window, and most of the windows are camber-headed sashes.
