Description

The Ocean Building, formerly known as No 9, is a three-storey structure with a basement. It features a cornice and a band course at the first floor level. The front is finished in stucco, with a rusticated ground floor. The building has mainly large pane horned sash windows, with architraves on the second floor and both architraves and bracketed cornices on the first floor. The former entrance doorway has been converted into a window and has a bracketed cornice above it. To the right, there is a tall window adorned with stucco voussoirs.

The former Nos 10-12 are set forward and consist of four storeys with a stucco front and quoins at the angles. The six-window facade is arranged in three bays, with the central bay advanced. Most windows are small-pane sashes. A heavy cornice aligns with the rest of the terrace and supports an attic storey above, which has six round-headed windows with moulded surrounds, two in each bay. The shallow eaves cornice features a panelled parapet over the central bay. The second floor has six square-headed windows, two in each bay, while the first floor has six windows with bracketed triangular pediments, two in each bay. There is a blocking course over the first floor. The end bays of the ground floor have three windows each with shouldered architraves, while the central bay contains a similar door to the left and two windows. The window heads in the central bay feature reliefs of a rail truck, a dragon, and a stylised sailing ship. The returns to the left and right have single narrow sashes on the first and second floors.
