Description
This is a pair of navigation lamps located to the east of the Bute West Dock Basin, designed to assist vessels entering the dock. The south lamp is made of cast iron and features a fluted plinth shaped like a bound bundle of sticks, with a tulip-like base leading to a tapering shaft and a cross bar. The shaft holds a ship's lamp with a red lens facing south.
The north lamp is identical to the south lamp but is raised approximately 60 centimeters on an additional plinth. This elevation allows vessels in the bay to align the lamps, providing a course for entering the dock.
