Description
The Sea Wall and Lock of Bute East Dock Basin is a Grade II listed structure. The lock is only listed up to the road, which was once the location of a swing bridge, beyond which the walls are incomplete. The walls are constructed from finely-jointed, level-coursed brown stone. The copings for the gate rebates and the eastern wall are generally made of brown stone, while other copings are made of granite. Near the gate rebates, there is a depth scale inscribed in Roman numerals. The sea wall continues to the east, featuring massive blocks of brown stone, with granite copings except at the extreme eastern end, where the copings are brown stone.
