Description
The Signal Platform in Bay is one of two late 19th century signal platforms that were part of a former steam packet harbour. This southern platform is similar to the northern one but is slightly smaller. It is supported by wooden piles and features cross-bracing reinforced with metal plates. The decking includes iron bollards and railings. There are two railway-type signals mounted on slim solid posts with decorative pinnacles, along with ladders. Originally, a floating landing stage was located at the rear of this platform, which was connected to the quayside by a pivoting bridge that ran between wooden dolphins closer to the shore.
