Description
Mount Stuart Graving Dock No. 2 is a dry dock approximately 150 meters long and 30 meters wide. The sea walls of the dock are constructed from massive blocks of grey-brown stone, topped with granite copings. Near the sea gates, the dock walls are made of massive-blocked snecked reddish stone, although some repairs have been made using concrete on the southwest wall. The stepped walls of the dock are built from snecked brown stone, with additional repairs and extensions at the northwest end in concrete. The outer end of the dock is raised above the main dock area, featuring concrete flooring. The dock gate is of the caisson type and includes a railed, metal-plated walkway. The gate is operated by cables connected to electric winches housed in a red brick and slate shed. Large capstans and bollards are located on each side of the dock entrance, with manual capstans and bollards situated to the northeast, between Docks No. 2 and No. 1.
