Description
The Victoria Dock walls are constructed of snecked rubble stone with flat copings, surrounding a harbour that measures approximately 200 meters by 90 meters. Regularly spaced cast iron mooring posts line the walls. On the seaward side, there is a low parapet; the eastern side of the dock entrance features monolithic dressed stone blocks, while the western side consists of 20th-century blockwork but retains an original square terminal pier at the western end. A cobbled slipway leads to a landing pier on the outer northwest side.
The dock entrance is rounded on the southern side, with both sides recessed to accommodate stone steps. There is an additional lower flight of concrete steps, which is now concealed behind modern timber stanchions. A modern slipway is located in the inner northwest corner, beneath which original stone steps can be found. The landward (southeast) side of the harbour includes a dry dock.
