Description
Llanwrtyd Wells Station and North Platform is a low single-storey entrance and station building dating from 1865. It is built from brown brick, featuring yellow brick quoins and dressings, along with some freestone detailing. The building has slate roofs with wide bracketed eaves and plain bargeboards. There are two tall paired chimney stacks with cornice bands and polygonal weatherings. The openings are adorned with yellow brick strainer arches and blue brick keystones, while doved chamfered stone lintels, stone sills, and yellow brick reveals frame the windows and doors.
On the platform side, there are five openings: three diagonally boarded doors (one half-glazed, one double, and one single) and two wooden windows (the third and fourth from the left). These windows are three-light with a transom and decorative marginal glazing bars. To the left end, there is a narrower blue brick addition, which has three small late 20th-century windows under chamfered stone lintels, and to the right of this addition is a two-light window with decorative marginal glazing.
The entrance front features double doors at the center, flanked by two windows on the right and one on the left, all matching the platform side's detailing. The far left bay is set back and lower, containing a single door to the right, which is slightly advanced, and a six-pane window to its left. A datestone reading 1865 is attached to the gable of the higher section. There is also a similar six-pane window on the east gable end. The blue brick addition on the right has an eaves stack at the far right and two narrow three-pane windows on the left with chamfered stone lintels. A doorway, consistent with the rest, is located on the gable end under a segmental head, with a smaller bay adjoining.
The platform edge is capped with stone flags and features blue brick facings. The east bay, accessible from the platform, serves as a waiting room with late 20th-century seating, while the remainder of the station building is utilized for commercial purposes.
