Description
The Railway Bridge over the River Irfon is a single-span arched cast iron structure. It features a high segmental arch made from substantial jointed I-section beams, with open lattice-work in the spandrels. The two faces of the bridge are connected by round-section struts. It has a flat cantilevered deck, with a moulded cast iron deck plate that supports iron openwork parapets, which include panels with diagonal cross-members. The abutments are constructed from snecked rock-faced stone, and the iron arches spring from ledges that have dressed stone copings. The bridge also has stone end piers topped with rock-faced capstones, and the interior sides are lined with blue brick.
