Description
The Neuadd Arms Hotel comprises two adjoining three-storey buildings, likely dating from the late 18th century. The buildings are rendered and whitewashed, with slate roofs, rendered stacks at the ends, and a central ridge stack. Rusticated quoins and a plinth are notable features.
The left-hand block has a central entrance with a panelled door and a late 20th-century overlight. It is flanked by tripartite hornless sash windows with flat heads and stone sills. A decorative ironwork balcony is positioned at first-floor level, supported by two slender round columns flanking the doorway. The first and second floors each contain four windows, featuring eight-over-eight-pane horned sashes within moulded architraves, each with a keystone bearing an incised motif. A small skylight is set into the roof pitch. The building to the right is five windows wide on the first and second floors; these windows are narrower and more closely spaced than those on the left. They are six-over-six-pane sashes, some hornless, within moulded architraves with vermiculated keystones. A sill band runs along the first floor. A central doorway existed on the ground floor, but has been replaced by a late 20th-century window with plain glazing, positioned between pilasters. This window is sheltered by a flat, moulded porch canopy supported on two narrow square piers. The porch is flanked by canted bay windows with turned balusters at the angles, each containing sash windows matching those elsewhere on the facade.
The east gable end has two late 20th-century doors offset to the right. It also features three sash windows to the first and second floors, and a small window in the gable, also offset to the right. The west gable end is partly slate-hung and has a late 20th-century boarded door with an overlight at ground floor level, alongside a tripartite, horned sash window. The first and second floors each have three horned sashes, similar to the front facade, arranged asymmetrically, alongside a six-over-six-pane sash window set into the gable, offset to the left.
The rear elevation is constructed of whitewashed rubble stone with a low, gabled wing of stone and blue brick, and a further blue brick addition to the right. Upper floors feature closely spaced six-over-six-pane sash windows with segmental brick heads.
The interior was modernised in the late 20th century. From the front entrance, a reception area is directly ahead, with a staircase to the left, passing under an archway. A panelled door to the right leads to a modernised bar.
