Description
This listing describes a pair of mileposts located in the western boundary wall of the Lidl car park. One milepost is made of cast iron and is positioned on the left, while the other is constructed from roughly dressed stone and is on the right. Both posts are set into modern concrete and were likely relocated from another location along Caerphilly Road.
The cast-iron milepost has a triangular shape with a sloping top and rolled edge mouldings. It features raised lettering that reads "ROATH 3 1/4" on its triangular head. The north-facing side of the upright is inscribed with "CARDIFF 3 Miles," while the south-facing side displays "CAERPH-ILLY 4 1/4 Miles."
The stone milepost is earlier and battered, standing approximately 1 meter high. It has incised lettering that is now eroded, which may have originally read: "From Cardiff ... Miles."
