Description
This is an ornately moulded cast-iron milepost in Gothic style, dating from 1835, located by Crack Hill House on the A48 to the west of Cardiff. The milepost features rectangular panels at the base, with the lower panel displaying the date '1835' and the upper panel stating 'Colwinston Parish'. Above this, there is a tall crowning tablet with a rounded head, which has the inscription 'Cowbridge District' at the top. The lower part of this tablet has two pointed panels; the left one is inscribed 'To Cowbridge 4' and the right one is inscribed 'To Bridgend 3'. Below these, a segmental panel is inscribed 'London 174', situated above the rectangular panels at the base. Similar listed mileposts can be found in the City of Cardiff, specifically on Cowbridge Road East and West, as well as in the Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans.
