Description

This is a cast-iron milepost located at Pontyates, standing about 600 millimeters high, with a separate capping. Each face of the post is approximately 350 millimeters wide, meeting at a right angle. On the left side, it reads "TO LLANELLY 6 [MILES]", and on the right side, "TO CARMARTHEN 9 [MILES]", both in boldly raised serif lettering, with the town names arranged in an arch form. The capping features an inclined triangular face over each main face, with the triangles meeting at the apex. The capping is not bolted to the main casting, and no foundry mark is visible.
