Description

Disgwylfa farmhouse is an unspoilt early 19th-century farmhouse with a late vernacular character. It is two storeys high and has a three-window range, facing south-east towards the farm lane. Attached to the kitchen end on the right is a single-bay wing, likely built at the same time, which is also two storeys but has a lower roof level. Both the main house and the extension are constructed of random rubble using local sandstone, and they feature restored tile roofs. The end chimneys, including one on the extension, are rendered, as are the upper parts of the west gable and the east gable overlooking the extension.

The main elevation is slightly offset to the left and features a central boarded door flanked by a 12-pane horned sash window, both with cambered brick heads. Above, there are three 9-pane sashes located just below the eaves, and stone sills are present throughout. The service wing to the right has a similar boarded doorway, a renewed lower window, and a small upper 4-pane sash. There is also a doorway at the upper level in the gable end to the right, along with a renewed lower window. The rear elevation includes a central stair window and two ground floor windows, one of which has been renewed, as well as small openings on each floor in the service wing.

The layout follows a traditional Carmarthenshire farmhouse plan, featuring a small central entrance lobby with stairs located opposite at the rear. The kitchen is situated on the right. Inside, the main cross-beam in the kitchen is adzed and roughly chamfered, although it lacks a stop detail. The large chimney in the end wall of the kitchen houses a modern range.
