Description
The chimney of the Hoffmann Kiln at Eclipse Brickworks is a notable structure, measuring approximately 2 to 3 meters square and standing about 30 meters tall with a slight taper. It is constructed from red bricks arranged in English Garden Wall bond. Each corner features strengthening angles, and there are tie straps placed at intervals of 20 courses. Near the top, a large cornice is formed by six corbelled courses. The base of the chimney has walls that are three bricks thick, which decrease in thickness with internal steps occurring at roughly 6-meter intervals. On the northern side at the base, there is a lighting opening. The chimney is linked to the kiln by a large underground flue, although no above-ground connection remains. Originally, the roof of the kiln extended to meet the chimney.
