Description
The structure is a subway located under a railway, designated as Grade II. It features a splayed entrance to Commercial Street, with ramped retaining walls made of squared coursed stonework topped with stone caps. The subway has a segmental arch constructed with stone voussoirs and a stressed keystone. Above the arch, there is a vermiculated band of stone blocks and a parapet with stressed quoins and stone caps. Inside, the passageway is vaulted and whitewashed. There is a similar entrance on Maes-yr-Haf Road, which has a taller parapet and later tile capping, but lacks retaining walls.
