Description
The Midland Bank is a three-storey building featuring a five-bay ashlar front, constructed in a classical style. It has a triangular pediment above the three central bays and a modillion cornice. The top of the plain frieze is adorned with egg and dart moulding, and there are blocking courses present. Four Ionic columns with torus moulded bases rise from the first-floor sill level, and similar detailing can be found on the pilasters of the outer bays.
The second-floor windows have moulded shouldered architraves, while the first-floor windows feature aprons that drop to pediments over pulvinated friezes with side scrolls. The windows are symmetrically arranged with triangular and segmental pediments, all having moulded architraves. The sash windows have six small panes in the upper sash only.
The ground floor has a plain entablature above a channelled surface, with a modern fascia sign. The outer bays have advanced round arched doorways, complete with console keystones, plain fanlights, and panelled double doors. The centre bays have round arched windows with stressed keystones, modern glazing, and moulded sills. Two of the windows have been partly blocked to accommodate modern cash dispensers.
The interior of the building has been modernised.
