Description
Lloyd's Bank is a two-storey building with an attic, featuring three bays and constructed from white ashlar. It has a steeply pitched green slate roof with hips at the corners, adorned with copper anthemion ridge crests and copper cladding on the ridge and hips. The eaves cornice is plain, and there are two timber dormers integrated into the roof. The windows are two-light casements with rectangular lead cames, and the lead roofs have lead cheeks decorated with embossed rose motifs.
The first-floor windows are set into recesses and have moulded architraves. There are iron-framed windows with twelve small panes, where the centre six panes form opening casements. The ground floor features a deep entablature with a modillion cornice and triglyphs with guttae on the frieze. A modern fascia is located at the centre, and Doric pilasters frame the outer bays. The twenty-four pane iron-framed windows include opening lights and have keystoned moulded architraves, with aprons that drop to the plinth. The right-hand bay has an apron pierced for a cash dispenser, and the inner pilasters display bronze plaques.
The entrance bay is deeply recessed and accessed by steps from the street, flanked by Doric columns on bases, with a panelled frieze and soffit in the recess. The central doorway features a label on consoles, a pulvinated frieze, and moulded architraves, topped with a rectangular fanlight that has interfaced loop ironwork. The panelled double doors are flanked by narrow windows with plain reveals, sidebars, and laced ironwork glazing bars.
On the side elevation, there is a single dormer, while the three first-floor windows lack architraves. The central doorway on the ground floor has a moulded architrave, and the flanking windows have similar moulded architraves and glazing as the front. A blind window on the left carries a relief with a cartouche above bronze lettering, and a night safe cuts through the sill.
Inside, the rectangular banking hall features channelled piers and moulded capitals. The walls are decorated with a guilloche band that includes inset flowers. The ceiling is coffered with modillion cornices, dentils, and egg and dart moulding, although modern counters and other fittings have been added.
