Description
The Carmarthen Road War Memorial is a cenotaph-type structure made of ashlar, featuring a moulded base and a gabled cap. The front face displays two cast bronze panels; the lower panel bears the inscription 'GWELL ANGEU NA CHYWILYDD', while the upper panel lists the names of those who died in the First World War from 1914 to 1918. The side walls are adorned with sculpted lion's heads.
The memorial is approached by stone steps and is set back from the pavement within a concave recess. This recess has a rubble rear wall that includes stone benches and curves outward, ending in piers with guilloche-moulded panels. On the left side, there is a gateway with an additional pier that leads to a senior citizens' hall. Flanking the main memorial, there are panels with concrete surrounds added to the rear wall, which list the names of those who died in the Second World War from 1939 to 1945.
