Description
The building is a barn with an attached granary located at Crickie, dating from the 18th century. The long barn is positioned at right angles to the farmhouse and byre range, and it is connected to the byre. There is a later addition of a granary and cartshed wing that steps down to the right. The structure is timber-framed with weatherboarding set on a stone base, and it features stone end wings and a corrugated roof.
The barn has two pairs of opposing double doorways, with some doors still retained, and there are two rows of ventilation slits in the gable ends. On the left side, there are external lateral stone steps leading to the granary, which has a boarded opening nearby and a cart recess below. To the right, there are lateral stone steps leading to the loft of the later wing, along with a ground floor stable door and a wide door leading to the cartshed.
Inside, the barn features collar and tie trusses, with one tie inscribed "RP" and dated 1740. The roof bay connects with the roof of the byre range. Long timber braces adjacent to the doorway are used to hold the hay in place.
