Description

This is a Victorian Gothic chapel with an attached former schoolroom, set within a raised forecourt enclosed by walls, railings, gatepiers, and steps. The chapel dates from the Victorian era and is constructed of brown stone with pale freestone dressings, topped with a slate roof and cresting. It features four lancet windows and a left-hand doorway with a hoodmould and boarded door with elaborate strap hinges. Above the door is a lobed round window also with a hoodmould.

To the left of the chapel stands the lower schoolroom, also in brown stone with a slate roof and a gablet on its left side. A doorway, offset to the left, features stone brackets suggesting a lost hoodmould, and there is a large window on either side of the doorway.

The building is approached through a raised forecourt containing stone walls with iron railings, gatepiers with elaborate ironwork, and steps. Several old gravestones are within the forecourt.

The former schoolroom's interior retains some wooden dado panelling, but its form is largely obscured by a temporary gallery. The chapel's interior remains largely unaltered, and includes an arch-braced roof ceiled at tie-beam level, a ceiling rose with Gothic detailing, a north-end gallery supported on iron posts with Gothic arcading, original wooden pews, an organ, a polygonal pulpit, and a painted trompe l'oeil arch at the rear.
