Description
The Hay Spinning Gallery is a building with early 17th century timber frame origins, initially featuring a one-window front. It was later extended to the left, likely around the same time as the early 19th century shop front was added. The building has a two-window front and is three stories high on the left side, rendered, while the right side is two stories with a jettied and close studded first floor. It has a steep slate roof with skylights and broad eaves on the left, and the main posts below the wall plate are notably thick.
On the right side, there is a 12-pane sash window with a timber bracketed cornice, while the left side has modern small pane windows. The Georgian shop front features a fascia over the jetty bressummer, with bowed 8-pane windows (the right window has thicker glazing bars) and rubble bases. The central entrance consists of double doors that are partially glazed.
At the rear, a rubble stack has been heightened with brick, and a brick second floor was added in the 19th century above the rubble lower floors, which includes casement windows.
