Description
Lions Corner House Restaurant features a front dating from the mid to late 18th century, with origins in a timber frame structure believed to date back to 1641, showcasing upper cruck construction. The building was formerly jettied at the first floor, with a later addition of a second floor, evidenced by the visible line of the earlier wall head.
This three-storey building has a broad front with three windows, finished in scribed render and supported by a rubble plinth on the right. It has a slate roof with boarded eaves. To the left, there is a squared projection that rises to the original height of the building, likely added to support the jetty. The windows are small pane sash types with flush frames and cills. The overall design includes a small fascia, a shallow five-light bay window on the right, a central six-panel part-glazed door, and sash windows without glazing bars on the left. There is also an extension at the rear.
Inside, the restaurant retains unmoulded beams, a rubble fireplace in the attic, and an open plan ground floor featuring cast iron columns.
