Description

Oxford House, formerly the National Westminster Bank, features a prominent single-storey classical 4-bay ashlar extension built in 1929. The front includes a cornice parapet and plinth, with hopper windows that have marginal glazing bars, architraves, and a cornice above. To the left, there is a console bracketed hood over a recessed entrance that has panelled double doors and a traceried fanlight. The front also showcases scribed render leading to a Georgian building behind, topped with a modern slate roof. The right end is mainly constructed of rubble, featuring an advanced chimney breast and a taller cross range added later, indicated by a vertical joint, with the rear roof pitch raised accordingly. A cornice extends from the right of the chimney breast around another extension, likely from 1929, which has vermiculated raised quoins and a plain doorcase. Small pane sash windows are present throughout, with modern lintels on the older part and architraves on the extension. The rear is made of whitewashed rubble.

The front right has rubble walls with railings that curve back to rusticated gate piers and gates. Inside, the building retains panelled shutters. A major renovation was underway at the time of inspection in May 1987.
