Description
American Villas is a Grade II listed 'balloon-frame' timber house, slightly different in design from its neighbor, No. 41. The house has two storeys and features a gable facing east towards the street, with two-bay return elevations to the north and south. At the rear, there is a single storey unit that projects to the north side. A large veranda wraps around the east and north sides of the house, incorporating a decorative gable at the corner that highlights the door position. The walls are clap-boarded, and the roofs are slate with tile ridges, complemented by brick chimneys. The gutters are formed with wooden troughs above the roof boarding. The veranda is supported by turned timber posts and curved brackets, while the house features timber bargeboards. In some areas, the structure is supported on dwarf brick piers. The gable has paired sash windows, and to the right of the gable is a semi-glazed door with margin panes, along with a decorative fan design in both the main and verandah gables. The return elevation has single sash windows.
