Description

The Vicarage is a Grade II* listed building featuring a timber frame with plaster panel infill over wattle and daub, topped with a graded slate roof. The structure has close-studded framing with tension bracing and middle rails, and a moulded bressumer supports the jettied upper storey. There is a timber framed outshut, which may be an original feature. The central porch is storeyed, with moulded jambs framing the doorway, and open mullioned windows on either side. The upper section of the porch has decorative framing with cusped quatrefoils, and the tie-beam of the gable displays the date and initials T.K.

On each floor, there are 3-light casement windows with leaded lights and central wrought iron opening casements. Although these windows have been renewed, they likely replaced late 18th-century windows, possibly when a brick extension was added to the left. The brick extension, which was formerly painted, features a single 3-light iron casement window on each floor, both with cambered brick heads.

Internally, the house underwent modifications in the late 18th to early 19th century, including the removal of an earlier central stack. The current staircase has plain spindles and a swept rail. The principal rooms on the ground floor boast stop-chamfered spine beams, while similar plain chamfered beams are found on the first floor. The attic storey includes wind-braces to the purlins in the outer bays of the roof. Many internal fittings date from the 1930s, when several chimney pieces were added, salvaged from other locations. This includes two bolection moulded fireplace surrounds with overmantles, likely of early 18th-century origin, and an overmantle made from 17th-century wall-panelling.
