Description

This building, known as 2 High Street with John's Tobacconists, is a three-unit cottage that is slightly set back and angled to the road. It features axe-dressed masonry made from mixed local stone in irregular sizes and courses, topped with a slate roof that has a tile ridge. There is a stone chimney on the left end and a brick chimney positioned to the right of centre. The upper storey has three two-light casement windows.

On the lower storey, there is a similar window on the left, accompanied by a door, both of which are enclosed in a modern porch. There is another similar window aligned with the centre window above, and a window on the right that has been converted into a doorway, providing access to the added shop. The rear of the building has been significantly extended, and there are some remnants of an earlier adjacent house on the left side.

The shop extends forward from the right unit of the cottage and is a single storey with a wide gable facing the street and a hipped roof at the rear. The roof and left side are covered with corrugated iron or steel sheeting, while the front gable and right side feature vertical boarding. The shop has a window on the left with a canted face leading to a recessed doorway on the right. The shop displays the name J John on an enamelled sign, and S John, tobacconist and confectioners, on a later sign.
